invite applications for a
Professorship (W3) in Marine Geophysics
The Professorship is based at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean
Research Kiel and assigned to the Research Unit ‘Marine Geodynamics’
within the Department ‘Dynamics of the Ocean Floor’.
We are seeking individuals with demonstrated expertise in marine active
source seismology, and process-oriented research preferably including
ocean drilling data. We expect the candidate to have experience in
conducting marine geophysical cruises.
The successful candidate will generate external funding to conduct
research in a field that is complementary to existing groups at GEOMAR
Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and strengthens collaboration
with partners in Kiel’s marine research community. It is expected that
the successful candidate will initiate and lead marine geophysical
expeditions with the German research fleet. The research unit ‘Marine
Geodynamics’ covers most of the gamut of marine geophysical research
and provides supporting infrastructure and personnel. The successful
candidate will be head of the newly established Core Log Seismic
Integration Research Centre that is being set up with the Helmholtz
centers in Potsdam and Bremerhaven.
Teaching duties will be carried out in the BSc program ‘Physics of
the Earth System’ and the MSc programs ‘Marine Geosciences’, and
‘Geophysics’. Courses are taught in English and German and teaching
experience is required. Teaching duties are based on the latest State
Regulations for Universities (LVVO) of the State of Schleswig-Holstein.
Presently they comprise four hours per term week.
